Parks panel urges hoops at Woodgate and Oakwood
The Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission proposes supervised basketball hours at Woodgate and Oakwood parks to ease cross town access. Hoops would be restored in June to August for half a 12-week season with three hours daily and three hours in the evening on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Four-year sentence in I-57 rock killing case
A Steger man, Kevin DeLorenzo, 20, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in a rock throwing incident that killed Charles Layfield of Chicago on an I-57 overpass last year. He was sentenced to four years and will begin serving January 2, with home confinement over the holidays after pleas for leniency by his parents and lawyer. The case stemmed from the death of Layfield, a father of eight, when a roughly 11-pound rock shattered the windshield of the truck he rode in at Stuenkel Road near Monee. co-defendant Leon DeRouin, 19, was convicted earlier of the same crime.
