Leader in tax protest movement found guilty in Chicago trial
William Benson 62 of South Holland was convicted on two counts of willful failure to file income tax returns and one count of tax evasion after a jury trial in Federal Court. He earned about 9,885 in 1980 and 101,654 in 1981, with about 35,000 due in taxes for 1981. Benson argues the 16th Amendment is not law.
