Illinois AG gains nationwide power against deceptive telemarketing

Attorney General Jim Ryan announced that he can sue fraudulent telemarketers nationwide, expanding tools to protect Illinois consumers and seniors. The FTC rule, effective Jan 1 1996, requires clear disclosures, bans misleading cost claims, limits calling times, and imposes penalties up to 10 000 per violation.
