Ali Aliyah sparring foe faces weapons charges and self defense plan
Wali Ahmed Benyosuf Ali, 43, of Chicago, claimed prior sparring with Muhammed Ali and adopted his surname after converting to Islam. He fired his private attorney and said he would represent himself on a felony weapons charge after officers found 10 live rounds in his Cadillac during a May arrest. He cited no funds for private counsel, and Associate Judge Paul T. Foxgrover warned against self representation. A Sept. 25 return date was set.
