The hospital laboratory at South Suburban Hospital, a 270 bed not-for-profit community facility at 17800 S. Kedzie Ave in Hazel Crest, earned a two year accreditation from the College of American Pathologists. The CAP report praised standards met in all areas and excellent services in hematology chemistry urinalysis therapeutic drug monitoring microbiology transfusion medicine blood bank diagnostic immunology and anatomic pathology.

Job well done rates award for Heights man
Robert Chambers, a Chicago Heights resident and Veterans Administration Lakeside Medical Center employee, was honored by the Federal Executive Board of Chicago for exemplary job performance. The luncheon ceremony cited his dedication to improving food service for patients and his extra effort to prepare special meals. Chambers is in the U S Army Reserve and participated in Desert Storm and is active at Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church.

Foundation sets goal for scholarship fund at Governors State
Governors State University Foundation aims to raise 86000 this fiscal year for the Partners in Excellence fund to aid GSU students with scholarships. Major gifts include Beverly Bank Matteson 5000 Federal Signal University Park 3000 and Heritage Bank Chicago Heights 2500. The drive also funds library computers and an inaugural Phi Theta Kappa honors scholarship to help students not currently eligible for state or federal aid attend the university.
