Severe I-80 94 traffic snarls loom with lane closures
The Illinois Department of Transportation will close lanes on I-80/94 from the Calumet Expressway to Torrence Avenue starting 11 p.m. Sunday. Eastbound and westbound I-80 will have only the left lane open, as will ramps from I-94 to I-80/94 and vice versa. Closures last up to five days, Alpha Construction Company handles patching, causing long backups. Travelers urged to use alternate routes.

New program aims to steer offenders back on track
The Cook County Day Reporting Center at Cook County Jail South Campus in Chicago began March 29 and supervises up to 200 pre trial detainees. Participants attend weekday programs for substance abuse, violence prevention, and job training, with drug testing and close oversight. The center is run by the Sheriff’s Department and Treatment Alternatives for Special Clients, Inc., part of Cook County’s plan to reduce jail overcrowding.
