Promoted cops admit trial misconduct in Chicago Heights
Ten officers were promoted by the Police and Fire Commission while five admitted to filing false tax returns fixing tickets or bookmaking during the Mangialardi trial. Chief Karla Osantowski defended the promotions saying a fresh start was needed and that the promotion list was followed from the existing roster. Mangialardi, convicted on 13 federal counts, awaits sentencing with a May 17 status hearing.
