DeAngelis education overhaul moves to full Senate
Illinois state proposal by Sen. Aldo DeAngelis would rewrite the aid formula, cut local property taxes by 50 percent and raise the state income tax from 3 to 4 percent with a corporate rate hike to 6.4 percent. The plan, estimated to add 1.9 billion annually for K 12, would start in fiscal year 1996 and uses a statewide median cost with regional adjustments to determine state funding and local tax responsibility.
