Two Peotone residents and write-in candidates, Richard Carroll and Judith Shepherd, filed suit against the Illinois State Board of Elections and three county clerks claiming 22 violations in the March 19 primary. Carroll received 161 votes and Shepherd 127, yet officials say they failed to meet write-in thresholds. The plaintiffs allege conspiratorial actions by Will, Kankakee, and Iroquois county clerks and the state board to deny their rights, partly due to opposition to a proposed Peotone airport. The case proceeds to a jury trial, with hearings in Will County Court.
