Chicago artist helps Hart students craft staff art
David Philpot, famed South Side sculptor, assists Louie Petrelli and peers at James Hart School and Huth Junior High in Matteson. Students Jeremy Rivers and Darryl Meek, 12 and 11, create staffs from found objects. Philpot highlights transforming everyday items into art. Philpot’s workshop, funded by Intuit Museum, echoes his Cow From Home project for Cows on Parade. Oprah Winfrey bought that piece at auction for $36,000.
