House passes civic center authority bill in narrow vote

Illinois House approved the Southland Civic Center Authority plan by a tight margin amid a party split. The measure would create a seven member board with Cook and Will County appointees and authorize a 70 municipality jurisdiction to study site options and proceed toward a civic center by 2002 or face dissolution.

Professors Approve New GSU Contract

Professors at Governors State University ratified a new contract by a 53 to 8 vote, with a 3 percent across the board raise, a 0.875 percent merit boost, and minimum increases of 10 to 35 dollars monthly.
