The Kansas avenue bridge over Soldier Creek in North Topeka collapsed due to high water. A buggy with Mr. Cecil and five colored boys was swept into the stream. Mr. Cecil and two boys were saved, three boys drowned.
Large iron on the track derailed the Davy Crockett special as it neared San Antonio. The engine baggage car and two coaches turned over in a ditch. John Wolf was killed in the crash and several others injured. Police and railroad officials investigated the incident as wreckers were suspected.

The state's attorney's office presented grand jury evidence of falsified naturalization papers. One man was arrested on perjury charges and many true bills are expected. Investigators say agents charged $3 to $10 per immigrant to secure papers.

Oscar Bradshaw was condemned for first degree murder in Franklin county in December 1902 and sentenced to be hanged. He filed a notice of appeal but never pursued it and has remained in Walla Walla County Jail for nearly three years. The Franklin county prosecuting attorney seeks action, with the attorney general advising dismissal for want of prosecution in the Supreme Court.
