Steamship agents circulated circulars in Russia urging emigrants to sail to the United States via Libau or Odessa to skirt German port cholera restrictions. The Public Health Service tightened entry controls as soon as the scheme was known, preventing many cholera suspects from entering.
In a New York City court Mrs. Bertha Lang accused Miss Frances Stultz of assault after an argument over Lang's husband. Stultz brandished a hobble skirt and quipped she could barely glide, prompting Magistrate Gilroy to dismiss the case as “I am no Solomon.”
T. N. Pitcher a traveling salesman and J. M. How also a salesman were arrested in Murphy's Hotel at 1 oclock Thursday by Detectives Wiltshire and Palmer on suspicion of passing worthless checks. They were in the company of a woman identified as Mrs Pitcher who was not arrested. Pitcher later went to H C Boschen shoe store at 507 East Broad Street and presented a check.
Elaborate ceremonies aboard the South Carolina at Norfolk navy yard marked the presentation of the naval trophy for achieving high percentages in spring summer target and maneuvering exercises. Witnesses included the Norfolk commandant and officers from ships of the Atlantic fleet off Virginia and Massachusetts coasts. Captain Fletcher officiated.
Murray Bowcock of Castalia was elected president of the Keswick Hunt Club succeeding H E Magruder who resigned. Other officers include Edwin H Fellowes as vice president Julian Morris M F H Hanna Lee Thurman secretary treasurer and a slate of board members. Nearly 1000 dollars was raised for the hunting fund with many named members listed among attendees and supporters.
Norfolk grand jury accuses Edward Willcox James T Hannan and Frank Kellinger of willful corrupt acts in the August 23 1910 primary. They allegedly listed Ernest H Meeks as voting and certified a false tally to benefit the Democratic party in Virginia’s Second District.
A massive blaze Friday devastated Boswell, about twenty miles south of Johnstown, wiping out the hotel scene, Brothers' Clothing Store, livery stables, and local residences. Fire crews battled the flames as the community faced extensive destruction and loss of buildings.
Chicago hosts a sweeping revival led by Rev. J Wilbur Chapman and Charles W Alexander with 2500 converts reported. Four hundred churches and nearly 1000 ministers unite, using White City Casino ballroom and city churches for nightly services to rally the populace.

A passenger train in Piedmont West Virginia collided with a gang of Italian workers, resulting in fatalities. Details on the number of deaths and the identities of those involved were not immediately released. Police and railroad officials investigated the incident at the scene.
