In Pittsburg three people are injured after Tony Trappoli, a street cleaner, opens fire as police attempt to arrest him for stabbing W. H. Vaught. Mrs. Mary Trappoli is seriously wounded, Tony Trappoli shot in the hand, and Officer T. J. Millerin shot in the left side. Police say Vaught was stabbed in the back during the confrontation.
Special Treasury agents seized several hundred oriental art objects found with two Russians. The pair admitted bringing the items ashore but said they did not know they violated any law. A finely wrought sword was said to be a gift for President Taft from many Russian friends.
Stolypin returned from Tsarskoe-Selo to press the Emperor to distance himself from reactionary courtiers or accept cabinet resignations. Government circles say the Naval Bill decision is pending and the Stolypin cabinet is likely to stay in office with the Czar's choice still undecided.

An American seaman Payne claims Captain Collin Stephenson and crew of the whaling ship Carrie D Knowles, missing five years, are imprisoned in Venezuela after the vessel was seized at a Venezuelan port. Authorities in Kingstown consider Payne's story credible and have begun an investigation. The 1904 voyage began from Provincetown with a crew, and insurers paid deaths claims after the ship was believed lost. Payne says the men survive in prison. details of his escape are unknown, amid broader tensions with Venezuelan authorities.
