Rev. Dr. Charles Pearson pastor of the Unitarian Church of this city died in Iodon England while visiting his daughter. He taught literature at Northwestern University Chicago for 27 years and led a famous Methodist Church heresy trial before later joining the Unitarians. He authored several volumes of poems and theological works.
Dr Henry Hull supreme grand master of the Orange Institute orders immediate suspension of American members involved in an insult to the flag in London Ontario. He demands Supreme Grand Master Sproule of Canada suspend Canadian members who tore down and trampled the American flag. Hull warns lodges with American members may be suspended if demands are ignored.
Baltimore and Ohio police and the Pittsburg Bureau of Detectives say they arrested five people in a case involving the alleged sale of passes. They recovered 75 passes from Pittsburg to the seashore held by 75 individuals who say they bought them recently. Police believe buyers did not know the offense's gravity and may not face prosecution.
The government prepares to sue railroads for rebates to large industrial firms in violation of the Elkins Law and federal court injunctions. First actions will occur in Kansas before week’s end.
During Mass at the Women’s Hospital chapel in Palilog Fermo Italy the roof collapsed. Sixty people died including 16 women and 50 children and many more were injured. Rescue teams evacuated the injured from the ruins and transported them to safety.
Buffalo special story reports John Kopaczynski 27 arrested and charged with murdering John Staidle found dead beside a railroad track. Staidle is also charged as an accomplice in the case.
At the Northern Central railway station John K Geist of the York Safe and Lock Company entered a cab for home. A collision with a shifting engine caused Geist to lose a leg. An ambulance was called but Geist wore a wooden leg and was not severely injured.

Orange Free State and Lee ward Islands sign money order conventions. Yellow fever case reported in canal zone by Governor Magoon. Secretary Bonaparte revokes recent orders affecting Civil Engineers J W G Walker and F R Harris at Charleston Navy Yard and criticizes transfer methods. He also proposes changing the napen ob ten Soliiate names to new selections.
The Roosevelt departed New York for Sydney with Robert E Peary aboard to lead the Peary Arctic expedition. A large flotilla, cheers from river craft, and a parade of dignitaries marked the sendoff from Twenty-ninth Street, while Capt. Frank A Houghton steered the voyage amid choppy waters and a bright flag salute.
Baron Rosen the Russian ambassador and peace plenipotentiary met President Theodore Roosevelt at Sagamore Hill in a brief ceremony. Introduction by Herbert H. D.
