Walter Turpin and Thomas Seabold were arrested in Richmond on counterfeiting United States coins. They had recently been released from the penitentiary under conditional pardons. Turpin had spent 17 years in prison and was caught making spurious coin while in the pen. A United States marshal seized them and the 25 10 and 5 cent pieces and the fabrication machinery.
Mrs Almia Halsey Murrell died suddenly at the home of her son in law Senator J W Daniel in Lynchburg She was 78 born here daughter of the late S Halsey She is survived by her husband Dr Edward A Murrell and one daughter Mrs John W Daniel She also leaves one brother Major L P Halsey
The two iron furnaces of the Virginia from Coal and Coke Company at Roanoke halted blasting and closed for an indefinite period due to weak business and low pig iron demand. A large pig iron stock remains on hand and about two hundred workers are laid off after 28 years of continuous operation.
Mrs Anna Estes widow of Rev Andrew Broaddis Estes Baptist divine of South Carolina died at Roanoke at her daughter Mrs A Chewing's home aged 75.
