Taft Campaign to Push Trust Issue in Ohio Delegates Drive

Special Washington report says Taft will run on his Sherman anti trust record in Ohio with Langdon coordinating. Langdon spoke with Senator Horton and five Ohio Republican House members and plans Akron and Columbus speeches January as they seek Taft endorsed delegates. Supporters see the trust busting record as the strongest counter to La Follette.

Atlantic Fleet to Have Mimic Warfare

The first division of the Atlantic fleet with seven battleships sails from New York for Guantanamo Cuba for maneuvers and target practice. The second and third divisions from Hampton Roads and Philadelphia will join, and en route they will engage in mimic warfare.

Bryan rules out 1912 Democratic presidential bid in Tampa

William Jennings Bryan declared he could not consider becoming the Democratic party presidential nominee in 1912. He spoke after arriving in Tampa with Mrs. Bryan from Havana and said he would proceed to St. Petersburg for a few days. He declined to comment on Ohio Democrats boosting his name or on former Rep. Lentz’s suggestion that he is the natural candidate of progressives.

Wife Witness to Husband's Mad Act in Richmond

Oliver P. Paxton, a 30 year old salesman, threatened to kill himself if his wife did not return to him. He waved a bottle labeled Carbolic acid at her and drank from it, burning lips and throat, then collapsed. Dr. Watts responded to the scene.

Paxton Poisoning Suffering Man Placed In City Home

A man poisoned by Paxton was treated by Dr Watts who tried to pump the stomach but the throat was paralyzed. Medicines could not be swallowed and hyperdermics were given at City Home but the patient is not expected to survive hours. Mrs Paxton stayed behind.

Governor Foss Urges Boston Suburban Union For Harbor Growth

Boston Mass Special Governor Foss asks Legislature to merge Boston suburbs into a single metropolis to back a grand harbor program. He argues Panama Canal will spur Atlantic commerce and urges reciprocity with Canada and South America to boost New England trade. Other recommendations include anti trust enforcement, woman suffrage, uniform tax laws, labor bureau, prison reform, public utilities board, state finance board, and limits on corporate campaign advertising.

Fire at Frey home sparks frantic North Exchange call

A late night misheard fire warning in Washington triggered a tense chase as operators heard only tire. Undertaker A. G. Frey’s residence caught fire when a curtain ignited toys and rug. Mrs Frey fled with two children as passersby helped extinguish before fire units arrived.

Elope in a Taxi Moves New York Couple

Miss Alice Clifford and Holand Burch of New York city were married in a Denver hotel parlor on Sunday while her father H W Clifford broker raced across the continent to stop the wedding. He arrived five minutes too late as the door was locked. The couple married, reconciled with the father, and left for New York.

May Change Plans of Pastor's Defense

Boston mass special active work on plans to save the Rev Clarence V T Richeson when he comes to trial on January 15 for the murder of Avis Linnell was continued today in a conference between John L Lee and William A Morse defense attorneys. It is said the pastor's act of self mutilation requires an entirely new defense. Richeson is considered innocent by his former congregation and plans to select another pastor. Rev Walter Calley advised patience and poise.

Women as Witnesses in Richeson Murder Trial

In Boston Massachusetts special report notes women will play leading roles in the upcoming murder trial of Rev. C. V. T. Richeson for Avis Linnell’s death. Mrs. Edgar Linnell will be principal witness for the prosecution while Violet Edmands, Richeson’s fiancée, is a chief witness for the defense. No Goat and Percheron Plan for Sullivan Initiation

Special Officials of the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals report that President Quimby of the New England Fat Men's Club has agreed to give the club's meat a night off next Friday as they prepare to initiate John L. Sullivan. Sullivan will ride a percheron loaned by a Beacon Street contractor when he receives the avoirdupois degree, then enter the Revere House in Boston. He says a theatrical engagement in the city this week precedes the familiar initiation and denies using social ties to boost his show.

Banks Ablaze In Marquette Michigan Town

In Marquette, two banks were reported in flames causing emergency responses. Firefighters battled the blaze as the cause and extent were being investigated, with residents advised to stay clear of the area. Local authorities coordinated with fire services to contain the incident.

Shenandoah District Votes Dry By 21 Majority

In Edinburg District Shenandoah County voters chose to keep the district dry by a 21 vote margin. Shenandoah County has been dry for years and the measure followed wets’ petitioning amid Staunton’s recent wet victory. The empire coiffure trend is noted as favored.
