Mrs. Isabel La Bonte of Traverse City died instantly when the Lee Lanau’s boiler exploded near Carp Lake. John Hartung of Leland was fatally injured. several other Michigan passengers were seriously or slightly hurt. The accident occurred as the engine was shut to fix a loose bolt. the steamer towed to Traverse City for repairs.
In Caldwell County near Drace two men died and two others were fatally injured when a boiler exploded at William Reid's sawmill. Deceased are Henry Gilbert 50 and Fred Jackson 21. Fatally injured are William Reid owner and Hugh Reid son. All victims were white workers. Gilbert reportedly tied the safety valve down causing high boiler pressure. Reid resided 16 miles from Taylorsville on the Southern Railroad.
Eight members of Barnum and Bailey Circus cooking gang were severely injured and two believed fatally while spreading rails caused four menagerie cars to derail on the Great Northern Railroad eight miles south of New Westminster. Seriously hurt include W. C. Wheaton of Rochester New York with crushed shoulder broken ribs and spinal injuries and Andrew Melane of Mount Vernon Washington who was wounded in the head and will die. Little damage to cars or animals reported.
Warsaw Indiana special report Miss Eva Booth commander of the Salvation Army in the United States fainted from heat after addressing about four thousand at the Winona Lake Bible Conference. She was carried from the auditorium and placed under physician care.
Army and Navy ordnance experts praised the Davis torpedo gun after tests at Fort Strong Boston harbor. Commander Cleland Davis demonstrated a two part projectile using vanadium alloy, achieving a controlled double action explosion and penetrating multiple ship sections.
Spokane special report says an NP train hold up near Trent netted about 25 dollars. Post office inspector F A McMillan reported arriving on the first Spokane train after the robbery.

W J Bryan argues in a speech that the people must rule to protect rights and welfare, condemning the Republican party for abuses in the federal government. He claims campaign funds from special interests corrupt policy, urges immediate reform, and defends the Democratic party as a guardian of industry and honest wealth.

In Yoakum Texas a passenger and a freight train of the San Antonio and Arkansas Pass Railroad collided head on. Six persons were injured two seriously including engineer A J Fetterl and back injury victim L G Elisou of Shawnee Oklahoma. Others listed were Mrs W C Harmon of Waco Texas and fireman Pruitt. Porter T Leonard also among the injured.

In Westchester Pa a Philadelphia man Benjamin DeGildo fatally shot Benjamin DeFelix and Pasquale DeFelix before killing himself to escape a mob. Patrick Murphy was wounded and Michael Sargeant injured as police and guards restrained a furious Italian settlement after the feud dispute tied to alleged counterfeiting and a speakeasy.
Washington report notes U S cigarette consumption last year totaled 55,402,326,112 with 25,000,000 smokers. Average per smoker reaches 2,216 and suggests rising tobacco use across the population.
A passenger train from Ashtabula to New Castle collided with a freight train after a handcar crew failed to close a switch. Conductor William Walker brakeman Charles Bryan and mail clerk George W Cheffell, all from Ashtabula, were injured but not killed.

Isaac A. Upham, a retired San Francisco wholesale merchant formerly with Pagott Upham, was killed while riding a bicycle in San Jose when struck by an automobile driven by S. B. Hawkins, president of Garden City Bank.
Mrs Anna Klemma died in a car accident near the Fourteen Mile House south of the city. Her son Harry was slightly injured. Clarence N Wolfe, owner of the car, escaped unharmed. A bridge under repair on the road was hidden in darkness before he saw the obstruction.
