Richmond special reports a ferocious bulldog attacked a boy Albert Krause and his mother Mrs. John Krause injuring them severely. The dog aimed for the mother and tore flesh from the waist while a watchdog was killed after several attacks on agents of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

David Shirkey of Linville died at home at age 93 from old age leaving three sons and two daughters. Ann Elizabeth Landes age 23 of Stokesville Augusta County died of paralysis stroke, survived by parents and eight siblings. Capt. T J Keyser age around 79 died at his nephew's Springfield district home. he organized a company in California at outbreak then served throughout the war.
