Three joint indictments were voted by a San Francisco grand jury against Abraham Ruef Patrick Calhoun and Tirey L Ford for bribery. Other items include a New York burglar sentence a Rhode Island GOP convention an arson by Night Riders in Covington and a high profile tailor bill suit in New York.

Chester Gillette is executed in Auburn prison after a 1 minute 3 second electric chair session. Witnesses describe a calm procession, with Chaplains present, as Gillette confesses to his spiritual adviser and writes a final message urging Christian faith to young men. The event is marked as the most successful electrocution seen locally.

A New York banking despatch notes railroads plan to ignore the commodity law, calling it unconstitutional per Supreme Court ruling.

Winchester William H. Ewing age thirty five farmer died at Stephens City after long illness from consumption. Fredericksburg Capt. GG W Grigsby age seventy eight of King George County died from heart disease. He had served as sheriff superintendent of schools and supervisor. Luray Bryd Mauck age about thirty son of the late Ira Mauck died at his brother W L Mauck’s home Springfield district Leesburg Mrs Mary Ann Smith widow of Peter Smith died at her son John D D Smith’s home in Leesburg She was aged eighty and native of Augusta County with relatives.
Richmond special report notes Clarence W. Robinson of Newport News elected to the Eleventh Judicial circuit seat to fill the vacancy created by Judge J. W. G. Plackstone’s removal. Ballots narrowed to candidates I inson and Nathaniel B. Aijmac with Robinson noted as nominated by the Democratic caucus.
