In a dinner party tale Miss Sally Hopkins is trapped in a china closet by a hidden slide and mucilage, while Miss Reade and Mrs. Dean fear ghosts. A shattered glass jar, a jammed escape route, and a chorus of frightful sounds culminate in Sally’s exposed misadventure. The incident ends with lessons on hush listening, and villagers laughing at the farce.
