Admiral Crowninshield died in Philadelphia after nasal polyp surgery. He had served as chief of the Bureau of Navigation during the Spanish American War and urged swift action against Spain. Funeral services were held in Philadelphia and he was buried with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery. A sale notice for wool silk trimmed skirts followed the obituary.

A man about 40, identified as Frank Dolen, was arrested at noon by Central district officers Others Reager and Chr. for attempting to cash a $25 check drawn on a Homestead bank. He claimed the giver was a stranger met in a saloon on Virginia avenue. Dolen says he works in Mt Savage mines and a 3 PM trial was set.
