Man claims he was shipped in a whiskey barrel
Ulysses Grant Hamilton of Oldtown Maryland told the State's Attorney he was placed in a whiskey barrel and hauled to a freight depot for shipment to Cumberland by men who he says beat him and hid the details of the assault. He says he escaped by kicking a barrel end free and that four men were involved. The 50 year old, unmarried man has relatives in Cumberland and has not sworn out a warrant. The incident, if true, shows a novel method to get rid of an inebriate.
