Local Institute at Lonaconing Hosts Maryland Day Events

The Lonaconing Evening Times reports a 2 to 4 pm Central High School session with about thirty teachers including visitors from Frostburg. Maryland Day exercises at Central High School featured mottos, songs, readings and an address on Maryland’s role in independence by Hon. William Mel Somer v Hle.

Popular Cumberland Bridegroom Weds Edna Troxell

At St Pauls English Lutheran Church Cumberland, 7:50 this morning, Carl C. Hetzel and Edna May Troxell married by Rev J W Mccauley. The couple, both natives with large local circles, planned a bridal tour after train No 2 on B and O. Hetzel runs with Hetzel Bros. confectioners. bride is daughter of Mrs Belle Troxell. They will reside in a fine new home upon return.

Shocked the court sends jurors back for higher award

A New York City railway case in White Plains saw a jury initially award Patrick Morean four for the loss of his left foot. Judge Morschauer admonished the panel that the amount was insufficient and sent them back to deliberate. After about an hour the jury returned with a $5,000 verdict for the boy.

Oriental bank pays depositors in full under court approval

New York March 25 Oriental bank opened to pay all depositors in full per agreement with Metropolitan Trust Co and court sanctioned banks. Depositors asked to balance books and return for full checks. Altoona brief: about 1200 Pennsylvania railroad shop workers discharged, marriage men kept. payroll now around 5000, down 3000 since last fall.

Unknown parties dynamited the Daily News plant on Rocky Island this morning, wrecking a $14,000 press and the building. Police are investigating. no injuries reported.

Large audience fills First Presbyterian Song Service

A big crowd attended a last night song and prayer service at the First Presbyterian Church. The program included hymns and solos by W. Y. Morgan and Mary Miller with Mrs Helco, readings of the 4th Psalm, and performances by violinist Miss Rose, cornetist Mr George Mee Cracken, and others under the association president Mr Albert Grant.

The Supper a Success for Central YMCA Juniors

About 60 boys aged 10 to 17 attended a Saturday supper event. John W. W. Young delivered an instructive talk after the business meeting. Ladies served the meal and a contest winner was chosen by points ahead of the toss. The group extended the contest one more week ending next Saturday at 8 o'clock.

Shot Wife Accidental Gun Discharge Wounds Woman

Yesterday in a rural home Mr H M Deetz cleaned a revolver and it discharged wounding his wife Mrs Harvey M Deetz near the knee. She was taken to Western Maryland Hospital with a serious lower limb wound while Deetz, planning to be away, could not explain how the loaded gun fired. Dr Twigg treated the injury and ordered immediate hospitalization. Cumberland Oratorio Society also announced a membership rule excluding under sixteens and a 8 o'clock rehearsal tonight.

Death of a Veteran

Brigadier General Kline retired U S Army veteran of the Civil and Spanish American wars died at Johns Hopkins Hospital from acute kidney trouble. He was a native of Pennsylvania. Governor Guild's condition worsened with doctors withholding statements about his illness.
