Differential Victory Clears Coal Freight Hurdle at Seaboard
In August 1907 the George's Creek Basin Coal Co. sought removal of the fifteen cent per ton differential charged by the B&O Railroad for seaboard coal. The Interstate Commerce Commission ruled the differential removed for small vein coal to seaboard points but kept local point charges. Local attorneys Messrs. Blackiston and Doub led the effort, winning a major step toward eliminating the tax on small vein coal and aiding Allegany County coal operators and merchants.

Mrs John McLaughlin formerly of Cumberland died yesterday noon at the home of her daughter Mrs Kate Griffin in Leichester Pennsylvania. The remains will be brought here this evening to the home of Ose J W McLaughlin 169 North Centre Street and the funeral is set for tomorrow at 2 20 pm with Rev Mr Shaw officiating. She is survived by sons John McLaughlin Cumberland George Hancock James Pittsboro and daughter Mrs Kate Lewis Gilmore Md. Interment will be in Rose Hill cemetery.
