Enrollment Soars as High School Eyes New Deaf Department

The district reports 197 students enrolled this term with 120 girls and 77 boys, nearing the all time high. Rural pupils number 34, and new classes in commercial fields attract more students. A petition seeks a city school for the deaf, funded by state aid, while grades exceed seating limits and a new seventh grade is added in the Washington building.

Death of Mrs Machlett in Curtis After Long Illness

Mrs Machlett aged 26 died last Tuesday at her mother Mrs Radlinger’s home one mile west of the city after a long illness with consumption. Funeral held at 9:30 p.m. Saturday at St John’s church with Rev Fr Volz conducting.

Three Nekosa residents narrowly escape drowning crossing river

Joe Gazeldy Ben Wheeler and O D Billings nearly perished on a washline launch on the Wisconsin river. The engine failed 500 feet from the dam as they returned from the west bank and clung to a ferry cable while rescuers heard their cries from shore.

University Extends English and Engineering to Wisconsin

Death of C. M. Hugo A Chilton Visitor For 25 Years

C M Hugo of Chilton dies Monday night at age unspecified. He was a regular visitor to the city about every sixty days for 25 years, traveling in the interests of his cigarette manufacturer. Funeral will be held Thursday morning as relatives travel to Chilton.

Kraus-Weds Miss Frane at Colby Saint Marys

On Tuesday of last week Mer chant C. Joseph Kraus and Miss Josephine Frane both of Colby were married at St Marys church in Colby. The groom long worked in Marshfield with his brother M J Kraus before moving to Colby to start a general store with G C Kersten. Evans receives best wishes from Marshfield friends.

Bishop R H Weller will succeed Bishop Charles Chapman Grafton as bishop of Fond du Lac with a simple ceremony likely on November 8, the twelfth anniversary of Bishop Weller’s episcopal consecration. He opposes elaborate rites and expects a restrained service. The St Point Journal notes modest plans remain possible as no definite program exists.
