Inspector Caldwell of the U S Army conducted a Wednesday evening inspection of Company A at the armory starting at 7 p m and finishing by eleven. The scrutiny was thorough and exacting and the officers and men may feel proud of their performance despite Colonel Cylanel offering no decisive word on future prospects. After the inspection Mrs Spence, wife of Lt Spencer, served refreshments to Caldwell and the officers.
A coming treat praises the Judavis Aid Society of the Presby terian church for engaging the Schubert Symphony Club and Lady Quartets of Chicago to appear September 17. Now in its tenth year of success the company is praised as the cheerful, high‑spirited troupe whose music and humor endear it to audiences.

Labor Day Monday Sept 6 marks a grand picnic and bowery dance by Woodworkers Union No 95 in Adler's grove. A procession from AL, W. A. hall with Gosper's band will lead to the grounds for an afternoon of speeches, games, dancing, and refreshments.
A neighbor reports three wire fences around Charley Wharfield’s pasture cut. Cows were found with the fencing displaced on a Saturday night near Northwestern tracks at the south side of Fourth Street. Wharfield vows to hunt down the guilty party.
P. P. Klock, a local butcher, claims a Republican stole a quarter hog from his slaughterhouse last night and vows a detector will guard the entrance. The week featured multiple church outings and a harvest picnic with lemonade and ham sandwiches drawing a large crowd.
Upham's Logging Road crews departed Upham yards yesterday with several carloads of tools to start a logging road into Clark County. The initial task is to build a side track branching from the Greenwood branch, after which the project will proceed along the main route.
Gending and cutting of the right of way will begin. The road will span 10 miles with all crews kept at work until completion. The Upham logging train will shuttle to and from the work during nights and mornings. After the road is finished, camps will be built and preparations for tog ging will begin.
