Forty Five Years in Wood County pioneer's life noted

Supervisor John Rausch of the Fourth ward celebrated forty five years residence in Wood County. He arrived in 1856 when the area was wilderness, helped organize Lincoln town, served as clerk and treasurer, ran a threshing machine, and later aided roads and rail, with a long record of public service and local leadership. A letter from Ferdinand Hirzy in Germany sends regards and news of his prosperity and villa construction.

Moth seeks rematch with Beell in Ashland armory

Charles Moth of Ashland announces he will back himself with 100 to 250 dollars to wrestle Fred Beell in a second bout. He rejects Beell’s hypothetic three throws per hour claim and says a rematch should occur in Marshfield with a different referee, at the armory, not the opera house. He asserts readiness to travel and compete when Beell agrees. In Marshfield, a five month old daughter of Mr and Mrs J W Todd died after a brief illness. Burial at Nasonville followed. In another death, Mrs Carl Kisten of this city died October 10 after heart trouble leaving seven children. Funeral at the German Lutheran church conducted by Rev L Thom.
