War correspondent Edwin L. James reports the 82nd Division, including Wisconsin regiments, earned the nickname Les Terribles for its front line exploits with General Mangin north of the Marne. The unit, alongside Michigan troops, wrested back key villages from German Jaegers and Prussian Guards, notably near Bots Meuniere and Cierges, after days of fierce fighting and several village exchanges. The 32nd Division also distinguished itself north of Soissons along the railroad west of Juvigny, contributing to the division’s standing as an American crack unit.

Hen Must Lay 120 Eggs or Be Loss to Country

A rural agriculture note quotes J G Halpin of the Agricultural Experiment Station urging farm and town hens to average 120 eggs annually in wartime. He explains that housed hens should produce 120, while well-fed, scrounging birds may yield 80 and still not be a loss. He cautions many town hens underperform due to housing, feed, or green forage shortages and advises culling poor layers to save winter feed.
