Red Cross creates Automobile and Mechanical Bureau in Chicago
Following a call from France the American Red Cross formed the Automobile and Mechanical Bureau with headquarters in Chicago at Camp Scott 646 Cottage Grove Avenue under Major H. P. Harding. The four week training includes disassembly and reassembly of machines, driving test courses, and lectures by automotive engineers. Men receive daily grades, pay while overseas, and insurance of 1000 dollars on embarkation. The program is open to men 18 to 46 and certain classed men with one year driving experience.

Another Liberty Loan Coming to Finance Peace
Secretary McAdoo announced an additional Liberty loan will be issued regardless of peace prospects. With over 2,000,000 U S soldiers abroad, repatriation at 300,000 monthly will take many months, so the Army must be maintained, equipped, and clothed after peace. The public will be asked to fund a just victorious peace, while war continues and a fourth loan, possibly a fighting loan, is prepared.

Gas Defense Urges Fruit Pit Drive for Carbon Needs
In a telegraph from the Gas Defense Division Chemical Welfare Service, Governor Philipp appeals New York and Massachusetts residents to collect fruit pits and nut shells for carbon used in gag masks. Tillie Blum 18 died of influenza and pneumonia survived by parents siblings and half siblings. Patt Barazinske 27 died in Milwaukee of bronchial pneumonia. Carl Schulhouser of Hewitt died of cancer aged about 60. Peter Soehler from Sheboygan died aged 5. Manuel Paideh died in Hixton. Yoram Wilcott aged 3 died at home. Jacob Schuler aged 44 buried from St John and Mrs Adolph Grewohls son Adolph Jr nearly 14 buried at Lutheran church. Funeral details and pastors noted.
