Marshfield Secures Water Supply Boosting Growth

The city water and light commission led by Superintendent L Dorschel secured a reliable spring fed water source and a large artificial lake to back a powerful pumping system. Sixteen deep wells to 65 feet, a standpipe and a lake reservoir provide ample supply for a city double Marshfield’s size, ensuring drought and fire relief. The project also includes a modern substation pump and interconnected lake well system to percolate lake water into wells as needed.

Last week negotiations closed for the sale of the Banner Mills plant from Upham to C. J. Sparr of New Lisbon who will take possession about April 1. Sparr, formerly with Curtis Yale of Wausau, plans new management with H. E. McEachron Co. members. The mill keeps Manager A. B. Crawford and all current employees. The Upham company will furnish power for a stated time and may install electric power soon. The Banner Mills have long been an industrial mainstay, with the original 1887 fire rebuilding and recent refits culminating in refined flour brands.
