Lightning Kills Four Horses Near Marshfield
During a severe storm the first of the month, four work horses owned by Herman Swanson, near Marshfield, were instantly killed by lightning while in a pasture. An adjacent neighbor also lost a horse and another was injured. Swanson received a $200 adjustment from Partners' Mutual Insurance Co for the loss.

Stole a Slot Machine Arrests at Omaha Depot
Joseph Gibson, a grading crew employee on the Northwestern railroad, was arrested by Officer Griffin after stealing a gum slot machine from the Omaha depot waiting room. He pleaded guilty before Judge Andrews, claiming intoxication and disbelief in the machine’s value, but received six months in county jail. The machine held about $1.50 in gum and 42 cents in cash.
