Demobilization Plan Set to 233308 Officers and Men

Washington reports the War Department issued plans to demobilize the army to a peace time strength of about 233,308 officers and men by September 20. The National Defense Act limits are 169,498 for the line and 63,815 for staff corps, totaling 233,313. Officials say the drop below 1920 levels is to offset current excess, with large portions of expeditionary forces to depart within weeks while domestic ports and insular defenses require near-total garrison.
