Promoters kept a lively program despite heavy rain that deterred some visitors. A sham battle by Neillsville and Marshfield field companies drew thousands as 140 soldiers performed on Central Avenue. Races and contests followed with winners named, and a grand firework display capped the evening. Uncle John Williams, longtime local figure, known for aiding boys and factory workers, emerged as a celebrated community presence.
