Central Wisconsin State Fair elects Kieffer for third term

At the eighth annual meeting held in the city hall stockholders elected J C Kieffer as president for another year and Joan Seubert secretary and Fred R Pollard treasurer. The association reports 2382.02 debt remaining and progress toward solvency.

Art gifts boost high school possessions and ideals

The school received two gifts enriching its art collection. A Turner Brown print of Washington Crossing the Delaware depicts the Father of his Country in the bow as soldiers row toward the enemy shore. The second is a bronze statuette of an American Athlete in football garb, donated by Mrs. Winthmeier.

The Company A basketball team faces two top state rivals in the next six days. Soo line to absorb Abbotsford and Northeastern railway

Negotiations neared completion for Soo line to take over and absorb the Abbotsford & Northeastern road, the 15 mile link between Abbotsford and Athens. The deal was delayed but the Abbotsford Clarion says it likely will be carried out as Soo moves to buy depot sites in Merrill and Antigo and expand toward connections with Wisconsin & Northwestern.

Temporary Blindness Brings Family Rush to Milwaukee

Mr and Mrs Peter Diekhoff rushed to Milwaukee after their daughter Miss Margaret Diekhof reported she had been stricken blind. They found the affliction temporary and she was already regaining sight with one eye fully restored and the other improving. A specialist expects full recovery.

H S Defeated Medford in Season Opener

Medford High lost to Marshfield High 33 to 11 in the armory opener. Kohl led Marshfield with 17 points and Glassner added 5 field goals. Medford’s Klirsch and Suits contributed several free throws and baskets as Coach Otto praised the team’s promise.

Soo Line Ice House Nearing Completion

Rapid progress on the Soo Line Ice House project as it nears completion. The facility will hold more than fifty carloads of ice and will receive ice by train. About one hundred refrigerator cars are iced here monthly in summer, with plans to boost future operations.

Switchmen's Strike Ends at Northwestern Station

Northwestern station reports the switchmen's strike ended with the company gaining a competent replacement force. C E Strouts returned from St Paul and will likely not be recalled as regular staff mentored new crews to handle yard switching.

Finnegan Acquitted in Granton Shooting Case

In Granton Police Justice Kounts court James Finnegan was released after twelve witnesses offered no solid links to the shooting of Alvin Pagenkopf and Mark Lezotte. The hearing resulted in warrants for William Storm and Hm Wegner over liquor ties, with hearings set for the 25th.

TQ PRESENT COMEDY AT SPENCER

The play Box and Cox which drew big crowds here in December will be presented at the M. W. A. hall in Spencer on Thursday evening January 27. A fifteen member delegation will leave here on No. 9 that night and return on No. 4, which via Soo line will likely stop at Spencer on the return trip.
