City approves $40,000 sewer bonds for new system
At a council meeting nine aldermen backed the ordinance to issue $40,000 in bonds to fund a city sewerage system. About $18,000 in payments from abutting properties is expected, with $20,000 total bonds to be repaid as projects proceed. The plan, by Prof Turneaure and John Icke, uses septic tank disposal south and north for First and Sixth wards, extending drainage with wards served by outlets north. The move aims to boost health and growth and spur a busy summer business season.

West Returns to Duty After Recovering From Hold-up
William E West spent a day or two in Chicago visiting the Chicago Continental and Casualty Co where he carries an accident policy. He was held up during the Saengerfest at Merrill last July and could not work as a conductor on the Central road. Yesterday morning he took Conductor Phillips run on the Portage division and expects a regular position soon on the Marsfield Greenwood branch.
