Landmark system for section corners passed by legislature

The 1909 law Chapter 509 enables two or more land owners in a section to petition the county court to set hearings on permanent landmarks at section and quarter section corners. If needed, the county judge orders the county surveyor to survey and erect landmarks, then file a report with bearing and distance data for all established corners.

Surveying Procedure for Landmarks and Taxes

The surveyor presents a verified bill to the county judge for inspection and filing in the town clerk office. The clerk draws an order on the treasurer for payment. The clerk must include the survey cost in the next tax roll and apportion it among land parcels based on assessed valuation, collected like other taxes. Blank petitions for survey orders are available from the county judge.
