Soldiers in France need more books
The Marshfield Public Library announces a request from the American Library Association in Washington for more books to send overseas to soldiers in France. Popular titles include works by Zane Grey, Rex Beach, Jack London, Ralph Connor, Owen Wister, and O. Henry. Over 600,000 books have already gone abroad, but stock is nearly exhausted and several hundred thousand more are needed for six dispatch offices. Books travel in cases that also serve as book storage, then are redistributed by the American Library Association librarian in France to Y.M.C.A. huts, Red Cross and Salvation Army sites, chaplains, and officers.

Farmers Flour Delivery Certificate Rule 293 Regulation

No Change in Sugar Allotment for September

Three Marshfield Men Die in Action in France
Three Marshfield men are reported killed while serving in World War I. Louis Mangold, Louis Seidl, and Walter Soles died in action in France around August 3–4. Mangold, a former Marshfield resident, served with Shawano company and died August 4 at age 22. Seidl, a Marshfield high school graduate, killed in action August 4, belonged to Company A of the 127th Infantry. Soles, 23, from Marshfield, died in action August 4 with Company A of the 127th Infantry. City flags are at half mast as families mourn their losses.

Michael Thelen's telegram reports his son Joseph Thelen wounded July 15 while fighting Hun with Pershing's forces in France. At 20, he has two years in service under General Pershing, served in Mexico in 1916, and enlisted at 18 in Columbus Ohio. He is currently recovering in France and plans to return to the trenches.

Registration Day Set For Next Saturday In Marshfield
