Mysterious death shocks Marshfield as Henry Bartels found dead
Henry J Bartels a trusted clerk and National Guard officer died suddenly in Marshfield after a night of mild chest pain. An autopsy showed a normal heart and brain, with death attributed to neurigizor heart mystery. Funeral drew large crowds from St Pauls church and local lodges. Bartels, born 1871, had West Point ties and a strong academic record, and served as a prescription clerk for Sexton Bros. His death leaves a gap in Co A 24th Regiment and the community mourns a disciplined, generous man.
