The Marshall Scholfield election contest was withdrawn in Edgar County Circuit Court after a recount showed Scholfield ahead by fourteen votes across Clark Coles Cumberland. No fraud found and errors described as trifling. contestors admitted Scholfield’s victory.
In Narion county Sandoval district quiets after early drilling excitement. Pure Oil in Jefferson county reports 1900 feet depth and weak prospects. Kendall Development near Plano drills a test near Vera. Oblong’s Swindle Top yields strong drilling returns as several dusters finish. County tallies show Crawford 74 wells producing 3914 barrels, Lawrence 23 wells 1705 barrels, Clark 7 wells 315 barrels.
The people of Marshall are cordial invited to attend services at the Congregational church next Sunday. Special music by a quartet will be provided at both services. The pastor will deliver the morning sermon and an evening address on a popular theme. Seats are free and all are welcome.
E H Harriman a leading railroad figure died at his home Tower Hill Arden New Hampshire in the afternoon after a long illness from nervous trouble caused by overwork He owned and controlled more railroad miles than any other individual worldwide His death was expected and is not expected to unsettle financial markets.
Benton Willey aged 36 and Myrtle Gudgeor age 29 of Terre Haute wed in a noon ceremony in Eaquire Benson Martin's matrimonial parlora. Frank W. Davis 36 and Isse Lanham 25 of Westfield married at the courthouse by Judge H R Snavely. Anna Fisk daughter of Attorney and Mrs R W Fisk of Ridge Farm married Wilber Pribble at the Presbyterian parsonage with Rev F M Birkett conducting. The Fisk couple will shortly depart for a Chicago trip. both families have Clark county ties.
The West Side sewer project advances with much ditching done while blasting required to remove solid sandstone at the outlet. Dredger could not extract rock until explosives loosened it, slowing progress before city limits are reached. Once past the limits, clay will speed up digging, with hopes to finish before fall rains begin.
Frank H. Meneley files suit in Justice Howard's office for 54 69 against the prohibition central committee over singing during the last campaign in Paris area. The case set for 9 am September 18 1900 in Howard's court. Committee members listed include Harvey C Clark Dr W E Davis M I Delapp Edgar Johnson Edgar Wilkison C C Griffith. Louie C Lutz son of Joseph and Mary Lutz born Dolson township March 1873 died at his Marshal home September 3 1909. He married Anna Liclert in January 1900. they had three children who with their mother survive him along with his mother five sisters and three brothers. A well regarded Marshall business man for about fifteen years his death prompted a large funeral at the New M E church conducted by Rev E L Pletcher with rites by the Knights of Pyathsing and I O R M. He was buried at Marshall cemetery amid many floral tributes.
Civils at Rose Polytechnic were guests of honor at a reception hosted by Mr. and Mrs. E Tobard and daughters Helen and Beth. The group gathered at the Pritchard home Tuesday evening then went to the area lounge for games and billiards. Marshall's young people joined the event for a lively social night.
