Vandalia night agent Ernest Junker was held up at 1 39 am as two masked bandits entered the office. They bound him and rifled the cash drawer worth about 29 dollars while their accomplices guarded the scene and fired a shot near the agent’s head. The robbers fled east then boarded a fast train west, eluding capture as investigators pursue on multiple leads.

Turkey theft leads to wagon arrest near city
Early yesterday Brad Spenserving found a fine hen turkey missing and suspected it had not left the area. A group of three men and three women traveling in two horse-drawn wagons were arrested after John Moloy produced a search warrant. The six suspects were jailed to await trial after the remains were found concealed in the wagon.

Remains of Chester Ditzenberger Returned for Burial
The body of Chester Ditzenberger, 26, who died of consumption in Hindsboro, was brought home Saturday night to the Ditzenberger residence near Hatton. He leaves a wife and two young children. The funeral was preached Monday forenoon by Rev. Ernest L. Pletcher of the Marshall First M. E. Church. Burial followed in Ziegler Cemetery.
