Festival for the Good Templars Raises Small Sum
The Good Templars held a Saturday night festival for the benefit of their society but bad weather limited proceeds to about £50. Teachers at the college forbade student attendance, labeling it a secret society. Carpetbaggers are described as aiding local work while authorities note the Proprzs' Friend and The People's Friend papers in Illinois. A neighbor’s comical ride on National Road stirs comment, and the piece ends with a local saying about travel.
