John Ewart and Ott Gray attended the Dancing Club meeting Friday night. A marriage occurred on the 8th at Weatfield, Lawson Moore to Susie E Snyder, all in this county. February shows little snow with a few flakes yesterday. Nelson Hoddy of Mattoon visited, not aging. J C Philips enjoyed loud laughter Friday. A farmer ran over and killed a hog on Man Street. the hog belonged to Ed Shaw. Judge Davis was elected U S Senator from Newton Jasper County last month. Mrs N Robinson visits then goes to Springfield for the legislature. Certificates of Stock printed for Farmers Mercantile Association. Ben G Cox may run for Constable after losing last spring. Impounding cows illegal. drive wagons to Bartlett's wagon yard to feed and secure them.
A city youth desires to correspond with a young woman as a step toward matrimony. The notice notes that responses from all girls are not immediate.
A visit to Martinsville for dinner at the Nichols House showcases a traveler friendly style. Ott Gray praises the value and comfort offered to guests by the establishment.
Public sale announced by Thomas Madden as Executor of John Welsh estate for personal property 112 miles south of Martinsville on Tuesday March 6 1877. A collision between Dr Prewett and a wagon left the doctor injured. Miss Alma E Johnson of Marshall visiting Mrs Austin joins Hammond meeting.
Dr. J S Frantz and J D Gallagher of this city with R J Kelly of York start for Hot Springs Arkansas today. They will be gone about two months and are hoped to return greatly improved in health.
Local notice extols O P Liston as an agent for the P and D Railroad at this place. Described as very clever and efficient, he provides universal satisfaction to all with business on the road. It adds that it is a pleasure to transact with him.
The issue lists Administrators Notices for the estate of John Welsh and for Benjamin Wallace with Mary Wallace as Administratrix, plus John McDaniel as Administrator for Isane N Teague. It recounts a Friday forenoon trip to Terre Haute with Dr Bradley J C Bryan Frank Miller Dell Clark G A Hippard and others and describes the Terre Haute House as busy and welcoming with a fine bill of fare.
Mr Richard Talbot editor of the Robinson Constitution visited Thursday. The Democratic Central Committee meets at Marshall Saturday to discuss county election next fall. Thomas Reynolds lies critically ill at Mrs Mills Auburn and died the 12th aged about 35 buried Catholic cemetery. A donation party at Rev G F Daviss residence brought large goods and provisions. Doctors McNary and Jones expect Moses Dolson to recover and fear for John Day Dolson Township. R P Mayfield candidate for School Superintendent. Charles Chrisman Vandalia Depot agent praised for service. Washington Annuals ball at Sandford Hall February 22 hosted by W S Peters.
Rev Mr Obenshain of the M E Church preached a fine discourse last Sabbath evening. Afterward a praise meeting drew a large audience and praised the sermon. Over 200 were added to the Asbury chapel and Livingston churches in recent weeks with many conversions and sanctifications reported. He plans a protracted effort here soon. A Christian minister baptized 22 at Hutsonville last Sabbath. Susan Quick and John Thompson were baptized by Elder Morgan at Big Creek Sabbath. A very large crowd witnessed the ceremony.
The passage discusses a typographical error in a sheet and a misquote about preferring a blackboard over a county paper. It notes the Herald printed a mistaken reference to a black boar and remarks there is no use for any boar in a school room.
Legore resisted the cow ordinance with Dulaney & Golden for Legore city lawyers Lowe and J L Ryan for the city. The court ruled the Marshal was a trespasser for not giving Legore notice. Wilkin & Wilkin appeared for the plaintiff and S S Whitehead for the defense.
Mrs Omer Shawler near West Union gave her two year old son what she thought was quinine but proved morphine. The child entered a stupor and coma, a doctor treated him and by the next day he was out of danger and recovering.
