A September Tuesday ceremony at St Mary’s Church joined Miss Mary King and Logue in marriage officiated by Rev Father Healey. The couple, community favorites, celebrated with a breakfast for family and friends before setting up a new home at 1 North Street in Marshall.
A Westfield farm near Pinnell, in the second well on the Young farm, reports oil at 2500 feet with high quality production. A recent discovery on the nearby second well promises further exploration and may signal another oil boom for the county.
County Clerk Coulter received a telephone message from West Union that Everett Yargus and Bonnie Davison had left for Robinson to marry. The girl was not yet 18, so the license was refused. The West Union Methodist congregation formally dedicates a new, commodious church on Sunday September 8 with Dr Parr of Kokomo and Dr Stevens of Danville leading. $2000 was raised to pay debts and fund a furnace and piano, leaving the church debt free after the dedication service.
Marshall good roads boosters aided by farmers undertook a major effort to improve the National Road from Marshall to Terre Haute. Volunteers cleared, ditched, and laid gravel on a half mile hill west of Big Creek, using dynamite on solid rock and securing gravel donated by Will Taylor. The drive drew praise for civic spirit and urged continued local action to boost the highway and region.

Despite heat a large crowd filled the Christian church last Sunday evening for a sacred concert by the local orchestra and choir. The ensemble featured Clarence Black, Helen Pritchard, Arthur Rackerby, with a standout aria by Thorne. The quartet led by Maytie Simmons and backed by Mrs. Black, James Colgrove, and Roy Jefferds drew high praise, as did solos by Simmons and Colgrove. Marshall residents proved gifted musicians.
Clark County supervisors held a regular meeting signing in 137 voters requesting the general election ballot question on township versus county organization. The board approved $200 for the County Fair and pledged further updates next week. G Cannon planned a social visit and campaign start during the Clark County Fair at Martinsville.
Robert Slusser of Marshall is jailed in Paris in default of 500 dollars bail on forgery charges. He allegedly endorsed and obtained 154 dollars on a check drawn in favor of a man with the same name.
