A small brick house on east Locust Street owned by Mrs. Rose O Halloran and occupied by Sam Rider and his wife was badly damaged by a fire that started from a defective kitchen stove flue Sunday evening. Nearly all household goods were saved.
The Marshall free library marks its first anniversary with 13 613 books borrowed and 626 active borrower cards. Hours are set for 2 to 6 30 pm and 7 to 8 30 pm daily.
James Dawson, 80, lifelong Westfield resident and former publisher of the Westfield Review, died Saturday from age related troubles. A farmer and stock raiser with progressive ideas, he helped build the Danville and Olney railroad and served as its first president. He also backed proposed traction lines. He is survived by one son and one daughter.

Julia Ryan Hennessy aged 90 died Sunday at her daughter Margaret Mc Laughlin's home in Paris after visiting Marshall area. Born in Ireland she came to the United States young. husband John Hennessy died 18 years ago. She leaves seven children including Mrs Daniel Sullivan Marshall Martin Hennessy Terre Haute Mrs A G Lee Indianapolis and Mrs Margaret Mc Laughlin Paris. Body brought home Monday and funeral held yesterday at St Mary’s Church.
Five Clark circuit cases were decided by the Appellate court last week. Bradley vs Vandalla Ry reversed and remanded after a $1500 damages verdict for personal injuries. Edwards vs Prust affirmed with the jury favoring the defendant. Maloney vs Big Four Ry reversed where $1500 damages for death were awarded. Lawrence vs Hammond affirmed involving a mortgage note dispute. Pine vs Central Life Ins. Co. reversed and remanded over a life policy suit.

Margarette Estella Salter wed Russell G. Haddix at the Ernst country home in a four o clock ceremony performed by the bride’s grandfather William Low of Marshall. Guests included Zelia Kile and Ollie Salter. a turkey dinner followed in pink and white decor. The couple will reside with Haddix’s parents.

Frank Prevo a well known York township citizen died suddenly Monday afternoon at the river ferry near his home. Heart disease listed as the cause. He was 65 and survived by his wife two sons and four daughters. Funeral services set for 2 p m today at Brick church York township.

W R Williams a 25 year old brakeman from Stubblefield Bond Co Ill was killed about 1130 PM Wednesday when his train on the St Louis division of the Pennsylvania system ran over him at Hamrick near Greencastle Ind His body was found on the tracks with his head severed Officials believe he fell between the cars and was struck by the wheel This he had been employed by the railroad since last April.
