Death of John QO Pearce in El Paso and funeral held in Marshall

John QO Pearce, 35, died at his El Paso home last Thursday. The body was brought to Marshall for funeral services at the Methodist church Monday at 10 AM, led by Rev. Howard Leach. Clark County Post 90 American Legion assisted. Interment followed at Brick Cemetery. Survived by father Dr. Edward Pearce of Marshall, wife, brother Randolph Pearce of Clarksville, and sister Mrs. Stella Morrill of Toledo Ohio.

Mrs Berner Injured When Car Hits buggy Saturday

Mrs. Henry Berner of south of Marshall suffered a broken left arm and severe injuries after a Studebaker coupe driven by Mrs Louis Goetzman struck the buggy carrying the Berner couple and Mrs Fairy Imle. Mrs Berner was taken to Dr R A Mitchell's office for treatment.

Institute to Be Held Next Week in Clark County

The annual Clark county teachers institute will meet in the high school auditorium on Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday. Superintendent BR N Holscher will lead. Teachers from all schools will be dismissed to attend. Noted instructors include Miss Lula Hill East St Louis and George D Wham southern Illinois State Teachers College. Otto Berg Canton will head the new department of physical education and health. Mrs Jayne B Kerr Springfield formerly Marshall Prof J F Powers Chicago and Dr Cooley Danville will speak. The institute adjourns Thursday afternoon and resumes at Charleston Teachers College.

D. M. Foreman owner of the Champion Electric Shoe Shop says two new electric machines were installed Friday. One stitches shoes and the other finishes shoes post half soles. Both from Champion Shoe Machine Company of St. Louis and are the latest models.

Medical Society Meeting Planned in Marshall Next Week

Dr Cleves Bennett of Champaign calls a meeting of Illinois State Medical Society Eighth District members in Marshall next Tuesday. Dinner at 1:00 PM at the Congregational church. Dr G Henry Mundt, president, speaks on the physician society relation. Counties listed include Clark Edgar Coles Cumberland Douglas Vermilion Champaign Jasper Crawford Richland and Lawrence. Monday council divided under Scholfield and Howell with McCauley siding with the mayor on several measures. Sowers pressed Howell over hardware bids and questioned sources as roofs leak at the light plant city hall and pump house.

Mrs Fawley Injures Self In Sunday Fall

Mrs Kitty Fawley of East Main Street fell Sunday morning while preparing dinner and stepping onto the back porch. She broke one rib and suffered severe internal injuries after a possible heart attack and fall down cellar stairs. Dr L J Weir attended and she was taken to Union Hospital in Terre Haute for X rays.

Honderich Elected Yell Leader at Central College

Lester Honderich of Marshall Illinois was elected yell leader of the sophomore class at Indiana Central College in Indianapolis Indiana The class is the largest in college history with 98 students this semester from an 180 member last year’s freshman class.

Illinois hotel men on trip visit Marshall

A group of 27 men from the Illinois Hotel Association arrived in Marshall at 9 50 yesterday morning. They visited C E McMorris, proprietor of the National Dixie Hotel and association member. The party toured southern Illinois in a large yellow bus to meet members, and a photo was taken by John Merrick.
