About 200 community members attended the Marshall Chamber of Commerce annual fall meeting at the high school cafeteria on Monday night September 80. Wilfred Shaw chaired as master of ceremonies and introduced George Gettinger and Mrs Gettinger, with several new guests welcomed.

Worn snapping rolls hurt corn harvest efficiency
University of Saskatchewan agronomy expert Wendell Bowers warns snapping rolls worn after about 500 acres cause more shelling and plugging leading to accidents. He says husks remain on ears if rolls are worn, compares worn rolls to new ones, and cautions against welding to extend life. New rolls can save four to five bushels per acre and repay cost after about 60 acres. Ed Tumey of Marshall entered St Anthony Hospital for surgery.

Martinsville High School Vault Robbery Nets $700
Ten years ago in 1953 Martinsville after the weekend football game robbers forced entry into the high school vault. They sawed pins to the vault door pried it open and stole about $700. The incident followed a Martinsville Effingham game and was noted in a weekly roundup.
