In Coach Browh's strong eleven Marshall defeated Garfield at League Park, 3 to 0. Players and officials listed as Marshall held Garfield to no scoring, with pivotal punts and defensive stands shaping a tense game before a large crowd.
Sunday morning a laundry stove exploded in a newly built West town house injuring Mrs. Jack Cline above the ankle leaving her hospitalized in Terre Haute after surgery and bleeding. Neighbor Mrs. Perry Lewis received cuts but is not seriously hurt. The blast wrecked the kitchen doors and walls, while Mr. and Mrs. Cline had just moved in the day before and had disconnected pipes to heat water.
The Public Library added numerous adult and juvenile titles in October including Where Religion and Evolution Meet Coulter My Table Decorations Tipton and The Atlantic Book of Junior Plays. Donated works include Hergeshemire Good Indian Bower The Bar-20 Three and several others.
Mr and Mrs F R Black announce the marriage of their son Harry B to Miss Martha Gapen of Monroe Wisconsin. The wedding occurred last Saturday and the couple began a wedding trip to New Mexico. They will reside in Denver Colorado and be at home to friends January first.
Miss Alande Elston of Marshall and Mace Snyder of near West Union were quietly married Sunday at the Kaelde brothers home in Eelington Wy. Present were Mr and Mrs Elston and Roy Elston of St Louis Mo. The ceremony was performed by Rev Denizel J Grateinger of the First Presbyterian church.
By Harold Bright. Friday night November 28 the county court room hosts an old fashioned spelling contest to crown Clark county champion for non graduates of eighth grade. John F Cane Dry Goods Go awards a gold medal to first place, City Drug Store a silver medal for second, Bubeck and Gallagher bronze for third. Marshall Herald grants three wall banners to the winning schools and Miss Winona Hughes directs music by the high school orchestra.
The county court records for the week include estates of Andrew Elikofer and James L Gard with inventories and letters of administration, guardian appointments for Hazel Mitchell with bond, and a final report for Colgrove Hoey partnership. Sewer work for Casey on Alabama avenue and 9th street proceeds with bond, notices, and hearings scheduled for December 1, 1924.
John R McNulty 57 died at his Auburn area home late Thursday or Friday. Widower living alone his death was not found until Monday noon. Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 o clock in the Auburn church with bereaved Eckel officiating. Interment followed in the cemetery. He leaves two children.

Former Marshall residents living in California gathered for a picnic at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Levi Dickerson in St. Burbank on November 2. Mrs. Dickerson could not attend so the event was held at her home.
Property records show transfers including Carter Lee to Ora Williams for a McKeen lot at $150, Eliza Leis to Ora Williams for another McKeen lot at $100, and Stephen Ulrey to Claud Gregg for land in 6-10-13 at $2. Also listed are transfers of Casey, West Union, and Darwin area parcels with prices ranging from $1 to $3,000, including a Casey lot to M W Johnson for $1 and a large 16-10-14 land parcel to Charles Ramsey for $2,600.
Incomplete returns show the $100 million State Hard Road Bond Issue passing with a large majority. Officials say the measure will keep highway construction at record levels, with 1924 about 1200 miles and 1925 around 1500 miles projected. Governor Small praises the ratification as evidence of sound, economical highway policy.
The annual football game with Casey will be staged Thanksgiving Day beginning at 2 00 p m The result is a mystery but the game is expected to be a hard fought contest between the two teams.
The Community Temple invites residents to a Thanksgiving service next Wednesday evening at United Church. Rev Wortman will speak and be introduced to the community by the pastor. Organizers hope for a large and representative audience.
The circuit court term adjourned after a two day Grand Jury session returning eleven indictments four defendants arrested for grand larceny burglary and statutory rape while others remain at large. Multiple divorce petitions were granted in listed cases with two trials resulting in verdicts for damages 2250 to the estate of James Bush and a defense win in another appeal.
The Christian Church at Martinsville will hold a dedicatory service in the new church building on Sunday. An all day event includes a free dinner in the basement at noon, with baskets optional. H. H. Peters, state secretary of the Church of Christ, will speak. All local churches will dismiss services for the occasion.
A Thanksgiving service will be held at the Congregational church Sunday at 10 46 AM. The pastor speaks on The Practical Thanksgiving Spirit and the male quartet performs special music.
Thanksgiving ends the Red Cross drive as November 27 marks the final day of the roll call. Volunteers staff the post office each afternoon except Sunday to process two memberships while a political quarrel story notes a politician calling himself a progressive after a party dispute.
