Dangerous speed guidance for car control and emergency stopping
The piece compares speeds and stopping distances, noting that a car at 40 mph matches the impact of a fall from four stories. It states stopping distances of 75 feet at 30 mph and 25 feet at 60 mph, and explains a mile a minute equals 88 feet per second, leaving 50 feet or more to react. It urges choosing a controllable speed to avoid emergencies.
Propagating Black Walnuts From Seedlings
The passage explains selecting half bushel of large black walnuts, removing husks, planting their seeds in fur rows three inches apart and two inches deep. If left undisturbed by critters, a row of seedlings will sprout next spring. One year old seedlings can be transplanted later. With good soil the trees grow about one inch in diameter every five years if the crown is kept clear.
