John C. Sindecor, UC Santa Barbara professor, lived months among the Shoshone and Bannock in southeastern Idaho and interviewed 800 Indians with indirect data on 1,000 more, finding not a single full-blooded Indian who stuttered. He notes fluency, lack of parental pressure to speak, and that Indians may cogitate before answering, while lacking an exact word for stuttering in their language.
